A. We’re based in Vancouver, WA and primarily serve clients within 50 miles of Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA. While we’re licensed to build anywhere in Washington and Oregon, most of our projects are right here in the community we know best. As a truly local business, we bring regional expertise, personalized service, and attention to detail that larger companies simply can’t match.
A. Recent law changes have made it much easier to build backyard offices, studios, and ADUs across Washington and Oregon—opening up opportunities in far more jurisdictions and zoning areas than before. If you have a yard and are considering building, ask us for a free property check and we’ll give you a summary of what’s possible on your lot!
A. We build on-site using high-quality, code-compliant materials—just like a permanent house. For smaller units, when practical, we prefabricate wall framing panels offsite, which speeds up the construction timeline since we can build them offsite while waiting for the cement foundation to cure. We are NOT dropping off a flimsy, poorly insulated, low-quality prefab shed. Every Focus Space build is a true, permanent structure designed for comfort, durability, and long-term value.
A. We build permitted, permanent, and fully legal structures—constructed to residential building code standards for safety, durability, and long-term value. Each build includes a proper foundation, full insulation, electrical, HVAC, and everything needed for comfortable daily use. In contrast, many low-cost shed or prefab options lack these essentials and often can’t be legally used as living or working spaces. Not all prefab options are like this, but far too many are built below code and without permits. Building that way can lead to serious issues down the road— if a neighbor reports it, an inspector notices it, or you decide to sell the property. Most importantly, it can be downright dangerous if something—like the electrical work—isn’t done correctly.
A. You get a self-contained room right in your backyard that includes everything needed for comfortable daily use—heating, cooling, full insulation, lighting, etc. Common uses include backyard offices, hobby or creative rooms, study spaces, home gyms, yoga studios, “he” or “she” sheds, and backyard bars or barbecue spots. Most units are single-room designs, but some clients choose to customize by adding a restroom or divided space for added convenience and functionality. It’s designed to maximize focus, productivity, and creativity and is the perfect way to escape household distractions and create a space where you can fully focus on what matters most to you!
A. You get a fully self-contained living unit with its own kitchen, bathroom, and private entrance—essentially a small secondary home on the property that is ideal for long-term living or renting out for extra income. ADUs go by many different names, which can make things confusing! They’re sometimes called tiny homes, granny flats, in-law suites, secondary suites, backyard cottages, laneway houses, guest houses, detached ADUs (DADUs), casitas, or carriage houses to name a few.
