Popular Custom Add-Ons

Every backyard office we build is designed to be functional and beautiful but sometimes, it’s the little extras—the details you choose—that turn a great space into your space. Here are some of the most popular custom add-ons our clients love:

Decks

A small deck outside the office creates a natural transition between indoors and outdoors. It’s perfect for stepping out with a coffee or catching some sun between meetings. Some clients add planter boxes for flowers or a small garden, while others set up a BBQ and a few chairs for relaxed evenings. Still others make the deck a central feature—with larger layouts designed for outdoor gatherings or extended work-from-outside sessions. Decks can be customized in size, shape, and layout to fit your space and planned use.

Bi-Fold Doors

We offer a range of door options depending on your layout and style—but large bi-fold doors are one of the most popular. They fully open up the wall and connect you with your backyard, which is especially great in the summer. Even in the winter—when it is closed—it lets in a large amount of light. Because they fold in sections, you can choose how much to open—whether that’s just one panel like a standard door, or the entire set to open up the whole space.

Ethernet

If your backyard office is far from your home’s Wi-Fi router, you'll need a solution. Wi-Fi extenders can solve this in many cases, but for reliable, high-speed internet—especially if you're uploading large files or on video calls—a hardwired Ethernet connection is the most dependable option. Many of our clients choose to run Ethernet from the start, just to keep the option open. We install it in the same trench as the electrical. Adding it later means digging a second trench—something best avoided by planning ahead.

Soffit Lighting

Subtle, built-in lighting under the roof overhang adds a clean finish and helps your space feel welcoming after dark. It’s a simple upgrade that adds both function and curb appeal. It’s a subtle touch that makes a big impact—especially in the darker months.

Cedar Soffit

Natural cedar brings warmth and texture to the exterior. It’s a favorite for blending the office with our Pacific Northwest outdoor surroundings—especially if you’re going for a modern but natural look.

Acoustic Panels

These are a must-have for clients using their space as a music or podcast studio. But even if you're just on frequent calls or prefer a cleaner, crisper sound environment, acoustic panels can make a big difference. All of our base units already include premium insulation, but acoustic panels are an option for those looking to take sound performance to the next level.
We offer custom-built ceiling panels that blend seamlessly into the overall design—even integrating with ceiling lighting—as well as wall-mounted panels in a variety of styles to enhance both the function and feel of your space.

Custom Windows

Let in as much (or as little) light as you want. From oversized picture windows to sliding windows, you can tailor airflow, views, and privacy to match how you use the space. Windows also play a big role in the overall feel of the office, adding character and shaping how the space connects with its surroundings. Clerestory windows—typically small, narrow, and placed high above eye level—are a great way to bring in natural light while maintaining privacy and freeing up wall space for a desk, furniture, storage, or artwork.
